Sikoses (Carnival Week)

The period of “Sikoses” begins on the Sunday of the Carnival and ends on the Sunday of Shrovetide. On these two Sundays, many villagers used to wear costumes and visit friends’ and relatives’ houses to celebrate with them. What is more, swings were also placed in various houses and young single ladies would gather there to play and sing several traditional songs about the “sikoses”, with the most distinctive song being the one that talks about the ending of the period of “sikoses”, which meant that single ladies would remain single.

Green Monday

On Green Monday, the residents used to go to the fields to celebrate the beginning of the Lent period by eating Lenten food. At the same time, they had fun and performed agricultural works in their fields.
